Right from the start, you can see a big difference in the thinking behind these two vehicles. While the Grecale puts the emphasis on powerful drivetrains and quick 0-60 numbers, the Tonale comes with an efficient plug-in hybrid drivetrain, and while this is plenty quick as well, it balances its speed with a hefty dose of efficiency. In fact, the Tonale can travel up to 30 miles on all-electric power. The Grecale comes with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that makes 296 horsepower in the GT trim. Move up to the Modena and the engine is tuned for 325 horsepower. If you go with the top Trofeo trim, it comes with an entirely different engine, the Nettuno V6 from the MC20 sports car. Unsurprisingly, this is an extremely quick version of the Grecale.

You can see that there is a significant size difference between these two vehicles, with the Gracale coming in at more than a foot longer. That’s because the Grecale is classified as a compact SUV, while the Tonale is a subcompact. That means more space inside the Grecale, especially for passengers, even though the Tonale is surprisingly the one with a greater cargo capacity. Both of these configurations have their benefits, and which one would work better for you would depend entirely on how you plan to use it.
It’s not everyday you’re presented with a choice between two things, and either selection would prove to be a great decision! For everyday commuting, the Tonale will save you money on gas and will be easier to maneuver on narrow streets or in parking garages, while the Grecale offers passengers more space, and delivers some truly incredible performance numbers. Which isn’t to say that the Grecale isn’t practical, or that Tonale isn’t a ton of fun to drive, and that’s what makes this particular decision so easy, since you won’t be disappointed either way.
